Sir Haji Abdullah Haroon was born in 1872 in Karachi and at the very tender age of 4 lost his father Haroon Abu Baker. He was brought up and educated in the most trying circumstances by his great mother. He entered politics in 1913 and was elected a Member of the Karachi Municipal Corporation. He was also an elected Member of Bombay Legislative Council and Central Legislative Assembly. In 1938, he was elected President, Sind Provincial Muslim League and among those personalities who spoke and endorsed the 'Pakistan Resolution' at the historic 27th Session of the Muslim League at Lahore on March 23, 1940. Sir Haroon was not only a great statesman but also one of the leading philanthropists of his time. He contributed too many charitable institutions. He founded the 'Islamiya Orphanage for Boys', which incorporated a school in 1923. The orphanage is now home to 60 orphans and less fortunate children from all over Sindh.
